Many, many years ago in a land just across the Severn Bridge, a 13 year old Daisy May recorded her first song. The next few weeks and months became a blur of excitement with a television company deciding to film her journey and showcase performances for recording companies in London.
It was all she had ever dreamed of.
Daisy May is curently recording with brilliant musician Seb Satchell, I was captivated by her stunningly, soulful voice and I'm sure you will be too.
When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I ALWAYS wanted to be a singer! My mum said I used to hum as a baby. I spent a lot of my childhood singing and making up dance routines for my parents to watch.
What do you do now? For work? For fun?
Monday to Friday I work in television as a scheduler BUT I really want to start singing full-time. It’s been quite tough working full-time and getting a lot of recording done but when you love something and you have a dream, you have to work hard.

How did you get into your area of expertise?
When I was 13 years old one of my friends made a Christmas mixed tape for all of us. It was a compilation of classic Christmas songs. I had an idea to record ‘Santa Baby’ and give this as a present to my friends (as my Dad is a singer too and has a little recording studio). So we recorded it and I think my Dad realized how my voice suited Jazz music. It was from this recording that we then got a manager and went to perform showcases for Record Companies such as Warner Bros and Universal and even perform in front of Prince Charles – such a whirlwind!
What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?
There have been a few hiccups along the way. When I was about 15 I decided to “retire” from singing. I felt too young for all the cameras and interviews (there was a documentary being made about me at the same time) that went hand in hand with the singing. It was all too much and I decided to stop. Now I would say that the hardest thing is to find time to record with a full time job.

What’s the best part of what you do?
I love singing and creating music with my musical partner in crime Seb Satchell. It’s so great to feel creative and create something that you’re proud of. Creativity is everything!
What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?
I would say that it’s essential to have supportive people around you. It takes a lot of time and effort to do something that you love and if you have people around you that don’t understand that you have to make sacrifices then it’s just going to bring you down.
What’s your morning routine?
I am TERRIBLE in the mornings!! I tend to have VERY lazy mornings (with Nutella and bananas on toast involved). We normally start recording at about 12/1 o’clock on the weekends! I’m up so early in the week that that’s why I like to relax on the weekends!
3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?
Live in New York for at least 6 months.
Lean how to play piano +/guitar (So I can write music all by myself!)
Ride in a hot air balloon.
What are you working on at the moment? Next project?
At the moment we are really pushing to get as many people listening to my music as possible. Working on our social media presence and trying to create great music. My latest song “On Track” has been is currently playing on The Vibe Guide channel which is great. You can here all my latest songs here.
One woman you admire and why?
My mother. She is the most motivated person I know. She works so hard at everything she does. She taught me how to cook, laugh, love and be a real woman.
Three wishes?
I wish I would stop eating so much chocolate (although I don’t really cause I love it).
I wish I could see my family more (I have family in Wales, Holland and Australia!)
I wish there were 3 day weekends!
Who do you turn to for advice?
It depends on the type of advice I’m after. My mum is really great with emotional/personal things and my Dad is better with music and business advice (as he’s been in the business for so long!).
Who do you turn to for a shoulder to cry on?
I’m lucky that I have many people to turn to, but I live with my boyfriend so it tends to be him. He knows exactly how to make me laugh and realise that the things I’m upset about aren’t really that big a deal!
Favourite book?
Matilda by Roald Dahl. A classic!
Favourite movie?
Tough one. It’s got to be a toss up between Notting Hill and Mean Girls. Doesn’t every girl LOVE Mean Girls? I mean, it is ‘SO FETCH!’.
Favourite childhood game?
The only playground game I can remember playing is kissy-catch. Is that bad?!
Fantasy career? Why?
Beyonce’s. She is EVERYTHING.
#FeelGoodFriday song?
Hall and Oates, You make my dreams come true.
Favourite quote?
“This too, shall pass”. My Nana always says this. It helps you realise when you’re going through a rough time that it will be over soon. It also makes you really appreciate the good times whilst they last! ☺
Thanks so much Daisy May!
