Meet our Wednesday Wonder Woman, Kat Williams.

I am so excited about this interview. I'm not married or planning a wedding but I have been following Kat and her wonderful blog Rock n Roll Bride for years.

It is one of the most yummy places on the internet and Kat has a super following to prove it. If/ when I do get married, it will most definitely be inspired by

Rock n Roll Bride...

"Rock n Roll Bride promotes individuality and general awesomeness within a cookie cutter, pastel and often puke-worthy wedding world. Don’t let the wedding industry define your day, let you define your day."

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was very indecisive and went through a lot of things… from ballet dancer (aged 3!) to teacher to

journalist to TV producer (which I actually did for 5 years before I started my blog). I always knew I wanted to do something creative though.

What do you do now?

I run a blog rocknrollbride.com, which I founded in 2007. It’s all about alternative weddings. I’m the editor in chief of Rock n Roll Bride Magazine, a nationally available publication which launched this month, and I’m one of the ‘headmistresses’ at The Blogcademy, an in-person and online workshop for aspiring bloggers and small business owners. Yes, I’m a very busy girl!

How did you get into your area of expertise?

I got engaged, I started a blog to document the journey of planning our wedding and it just organically grew from there really!

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

I’m not sure really… there’s obviously a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes – long hours, a lack of social life, the usual clichés… but I love what I do and never want to do anything else! I couldn’t ever imagine having to go back and work for someone else!

What’s the best part of what you do?

So many things! I love that I’m my own boss and I can pretty much do whatever I like. I love that I can be creative on a daily basis. I love the friendships I’ve made. I love hearing from my readers that I’ve helped them plan their weddings. I love that I get to work with my husband and that most days I get to work in my sweatpants. To me, that’s true success!

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

Just start! Stop procrastinating on your idea and GO FOR IT! The reality is that nothing is ever perfect and if you’re waiting for your website/ idea/ designs (delete as appropriate) to be perfect before you begin, you’ll be waiting forever. You just have to get going, make some mistakes and learn the lessons. It really is the only way to progress and grow.

What’s your morning routine?

I get up between 8 and 9, turn my computer on, make myself a cup of tea and crack on with work which usually consists of emails, writing blog content and pulling together magazine articles. I usually don’t get dressed until the late afternoon but I’m most productive in the mornings so I don’t want to waste that by showing and getting dressed ha!

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

It’s one of my best friends birthdays so I actually have the day off! We’re going to a spa in Wales and staying overnight. I can’t wait!

What are you working on at the moment? Next project?

I just finished writing issue 2 of the magazine, which has now been sent to my publishers to put together. On January 29th, we launched The Blogcademy Online, the full live workshop online! It a BEAST of a product – hours of videos, recorded in front of a live audience, over 300 pages of transcription, recourses, worksheets, activities and access to our lively private facebook community. People have been asking for it ever since we launched the workshop in 2012 so

we’re so excited to finally get this baby out!

Then I’m off to LA at the end of February for our first in-person class

http://www.theblogcademy.com/live/ of the year (Feb 28th & March 1st)… and then I’m off to Vegas with my fellow headmistresses and besties, Gala and Shauna, for a week of FUN!

One woman you admire and why?

There are loads, but any women that really make waves in business are so inspiring to me. I love Marie Forleo, Danielle Laporte, Jasmine Star and (I’m totally biased, but) my babe Gala Darling!

Three wishes?

  • For the magazine to continue to be successful (the first issue sold out online in 4 days although you should still be able to find copies in shops: https://www.rocknrollbride.com/find-a-store/)

  • For The Blogcademy to take over the world (HAHA!)

  • To move to a bigger house this, or maybe next, year!

Who do you turn to for advice?

My best friends: Gala, Shauna, Sophie, Ronnie and Lisa; and my husband, Gareth.

Favourite book?

I’m a crappy book reader but I did like #GIRLBOSS and Not that Kind of Girl recently. They weren’t life changing but I enjoyed them.

Favourite movie?

Back to the Future

Favourite childhood game?

Dreamphone!

Fantasy career? Why?

Magazine editor… oh look, I’m already doing that!

Adorona-024-shelldemar-576x863.jpg

Words for Monday motivation?

Just start!

Taylor Swift, Shake it Off (I’m not ashamed)

Favourite quote?

There are a few…

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken, Oscar Wilde

All you need is love, The Beatles

Give them what they never knew they wanted, Diane Vreeland

Thanks so much Kat!

x Louise
